Madagascar declares French embassy agent "persona non grata"

ANTANANARIVO, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Madagascar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday that the government has declared an agent of the French Embassy in Antananarivo "persona non grata," according to an official communique.

French Ambassador to Madagascar Arnaud Guillois was summoned to the ministry earlier in the day and informed of the decision, the communique said.

The measure was taken over actions deemed "incompatible" with the agent's status, the communique said, citing ongoing investigations by competent authorities into alleged "acts of destabilization involving Malagasy and foreign nationals."

The ministry reaffirmed the government's commitment to the principles of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, as well as to maintaining relations based on mutual trust and respect for state sovereignty.
