SOFIA, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian authorities have seized 11.36 kg of cocaine at the Danube Bridge near Vidin, located on the border with Romania, the National Customs Agency (NCA) announced on Friday.

The illicit substance, divided into 10 packets, has an estimated court value of 1.744 million U.S. dollars. It was discovered on Wednesday morning during an inspection.

According to an NCA press release, the cocaine was concealed inside a refrigerated truck traveling from Belgium to Trkiye. The vehicle's driver, a 47-year-old Turkish national, was arrested at the scene.

The NCA noted that the inspection was part of national compensatory measures implemented following the abolition of internal border checks within the European Union. These changes came into effect after Bulgaria's accession as a full member of the Schengen area.
