ZAGREB, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The Croatian government on Wednesday decided to release 35,000 tons of diesel from its mandatory oil and petroleum reserves to the market, Economy Minister Ante Susnjar said.
Susnjar said fuel supply in Croatia remains stable, adding that the move was taken in solidarity with other European Union member states releasing reserves to help stabilize the market.
Energy markets have been affected by reduced production in the Middle East and disruptions to transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
He said a meeting of the International Energy Agency held on March 10 agreed on the release of 400 million barrels (about 54.3 million tons) of crude oil equivalent from member states' reserves.
The volume to be released by Croatia represents about 5 percent of its mandatory reserves, equivalent to four days of average consumption.
"In terms of supply security, everything is fully under control," Susnjar said.
