ZAGREB, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Croatia on Wednesday logged a record number of 10,427 new COVID-19 cases, and 45 related deaths, the country's national COVID-19 crisis management team said in a statement.

These are only the positive results confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.

According to local media reports, there are 5,590 positive cases through fast antigen tests. Therefore, in the past 24 hours, there are altogether 16,017 new cases in the country of some 3.8 million people.

To date, a total of 836,807 people have infected with COVID-19 since the pandemic started in Croatia in February 2020. Among them, 13,257 have died.

Low vaccination rate has been blamed for the high infection rate in Croatia, as only 56.27 percent of the population has been vaccinated so far.
