BERLIN, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich restored its six-point advantage atop the standings after trashing Cologne 4-0 by courtesy on Robert Lewandowski's hat-trick at the 19th round of Bundesliga on Saturday.

The "Bavarians" assumed control from the kick-off and shocked courageous Cologne with only nine minutes gone when Thomas Muller's pass into Lewandowski's path allowed the Pole to break the deadlock.

The front runners made it two in the 25th minute after Corentin Tolisso and Muller traded passes before the Frenchman drilled the ball from 15 meters into the top left corner.

The "Billy Goats" thought they had halved the deficit at the half-hour mark, but Mark Uth's goal was ruled offside by the video assistant referee.

After the restart, Bayern tripled the lead as substitute Leroy Sane found Lewandowski, who wrapped up his brace at the hour mark.

Cologne increased the pressure but neither Dejan Ljubicic nor Anthony Modeste was able to reduce the arrears.

The hosts created their best chance in the 72nd minute when Timo Hubers rattled the woodwork following Jonas Hector's corner kick.

Two minutes later, Lewandowski rounded off 4-0 victory with his hat-trick.

"It was important to restore the six-point lead. Scoring four goals and not conceding one is good and important for us," Bayern Munich's head coach Julian Nagelsmann said.

Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen took the third spot in the standings after beating Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 thanks to the goals from Robert Andrich and Patrik Schick.

Union Berlin came from behind to end Hoffenheim's unbeaten run with a 2-1 win.

Leipzig reaped its second straight victory after moving 2-0 past resilient Stuttgart on the goals from Andre Silva and Christopher Nkunku.

Struggling Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin played out a goalless draw while Mainz edged Bochum on the sole goal from Jeremiah St. Juste.
